Hunters Helping Hunters
VP & Assistance Program
2010 Annual Report
Total Awards to
date: $18,065.59
Let me
first thank everyone for their continued support of Hunters Helping Hunters and
its mission to assist our fellow hunters in need. In light of the current economic conditions
over the past year, HHH along with every other group and organization has had
to make adjustments to their missions.
However, Hunters Helping Hunters mission to assist hunters in need has
not changed. What has changed at HHH is
its resolve to expand its reach and abilities to assist hunters.
The 2009 year brought a major challenge to the Assistance
program. With only one application
accepted for assistance, the HHH Board had decided on two things to help
elevate HHH’s presence within the hunting community. By coordinating with other help groups and by
also expanding the type of assistance, HHH hopes to lead the hunting community
in providing help with a dignified and respectful manner.
The single assistance application received had requested
assistance in obtaining an off-road wheelchair.
This wheelchair was going to allow a disabled firefighter get back
outdoors and back into the hunting community. Previously, the Assistance program only
assisted with medical type or related expenses.
The off-road wheelchair was not covered under any programs because he
already had a regular chair. The entire
HHH Board of Directors discussed other possible ways outside the normal
assistance methods. The Board agreed to
help if it was possible to coordinate a joint effort to obtain additional
funding with other groups.
HHH partnered with the New Hampshire Safari Club International
and both agreed to split the cost of the wheelchair. This was HHH’s first step in working together
with other hunting groups to maintain HHH’s mission of assisting hunters in
need. Unfortunately for HHH and NHSCI, a local firefighter assistance group
stepped in a paid for the chair up front to get the publicity.
Goals for 2010 are mainly to build new partnerships and make
assistance available by working together and coming up with new ways to
continue the HHH mission. HHH can make
available information to other groups and assistance coordinators and
providers. Also to help gather
information to better serve applicants.
Surveys and questionnaires may be able to provide this info.
With that being said, 2010 brings us a new dawn and with
your continued support, a new light on HHH’s mission. With new partnerships and fundraising, HHH
will have to step up to ensure that hunters in need will have a place to turn
to when needed. With your continued help
and support HHH can make sure that those in need can worry a little bit less on
their financial worries. Thanks Again,
Mike Bell
